SMASHBURGERS WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS & HOMEMADE SPECIAL SAUCE

Ingredients

Caramelized Onions:

1 white onion sliced thin

2 tbsp zero calorie sweetener (I used Truvia)

1 tbsp canola oil


Burgers:

4 brioche buns

1.3 lb ground beef evenly separated into 8

1 tbsp canola oil

Salt to taste

Pepper to taste

.25 lb cheese of choice sliced

8 slices of bacon cooked

1 medium tomato sliced thin

Iceberg lettuce


Sauce:

1/4 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp ketchup

1 tsp pickle juice

Preparation

  1. Cut white onion accordingly. Heat up canola oil on a pan to medium high heat. Once oil is hot, add sliced onions. Stir often - once onions begin to soften, add zero calorie sugar. Cook until onions until brown and do not let them burn*. Once onions have caramelized, set to the side

  2. Add ground beef, salt and pepper to a bowl and mash them together. Move to a cutting board (or dish) and evenly distribute the meat into eight pieces.

  3. To a new pan, add canola oil on medium high heat. Once oil is hot, add meat and smash (with smash burger press or spatula) until flat. Flip after 2 - 3 minutes and cook the other side. Place cheese slice on burger for the last minute until melted. Place to the side when fully cooked.

  4. Prepare sauce - In a small bowl add mayonnaise, ketchup and pickle juice and mix well

  5. Assemble smash burgers

*NOTE : Be patient with the onions! Stay patient and cook until soft and brown
